The Honorable Jinsook Ohta is the first Asian Pacific American female judge on the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of California. In an insightful profile, Immediate Past President Rebecca Church writes that Judge Ohta's historic service is informed by her experience immigrating to the United States at a young age, becoming a community volunteer, and advocating for consumer victims in California.
Rebecca also shares Judge Ohta's encouragement to attorneys to find ways to serve their community that are true to their personal background and interests: “To serve others out of passion or a deep sense of gratitude is one of the most powerful and meaningful acts that we are capable of.”
On November 30, nearly 120 members of the Southern District's federal legal community ate, drank, and made merry at the San Diego FBA's Annual Holiday Party & Judicial Law Clerk Reception. During the event, Chief U.S. District Judge Dana M. Sabraw thanked the law clerks of the Southern District and stressed how important their work is to the administration of justice.
